What is Tilt Mechanism?

A feature allowing the chair's backrest and/or seat to recline or rock backward.

Definition

A tilt mechanism enables the chair's backrest, and sometimes the seat, to lean backward. Common types include synchro-tilt (back reclines more than seat), knee-tilt, and center-tilt. Many mechanisms also include a lock to fix the tilt at a desired angle and tension control to adjust resistance.

Why It Matters

Allows you to shift your posture, relieving pressure points and promoting blood circulation. Reclining can reduce spinal compression and provide a comfortable position for short breaks or different tasks.

What to Look For

Chairs with a synchro-tilt mechanism and adjustable tension are generally preferred for dynamic sitting and support.
